Honey you shrunk my Shrink!

Psychoanalysis has come a long way from the days of Sigmund Freud and his talking cures. The actual goal of psychoanalysis was the conversion of “neurotic misery into ordinary unhappiness”. It is only successful if the individual wants to change, as it is often about challenging ones existing set of beliefs and thereby one’s own self. Lori Gottilieb states that in today’s case psychotherapy has become a branding consultancy. People no longer want long drawn out sessions, but want a quick fix solution. Now the new digital media has come out with targeted sessions to deal with marital problems, grief and depressions. They are no longer called psycho therapists, the new euphemism terms them as “Life coaches” the breed who dispenses the new, don’t – worry – be happy – sessions, shrink wrapped for convenience to give you that short lived, feel good factor, like a snort of cocaine. “I do wish I could chat longer, but…. I’ m having an old friend for dinner. Bye” – Silence of the Lambs –
